Notes, Remarks, and Observations

  • Total birds counted this year: 10594 Total birds counted on 23 August 1997: 12839
  • Total number of species observed this year: 48 Total species on 23 August 1997: 42
  • CALIFORNIA GULLS and EARED GREBES not recorded due to ongoing census efforts or research
  • Entire shoreline of Mono Lake surveyed including DeChambeau Ponds
  • Weather clear, warm (65-83’F), and calm. Winds of 10-15 mph started at around 4:30 pm
  • Participants: Ginelle O’Connor, Phyllis Benham, Ramona Robbins Clark, Joel Ellis, Dave Marquart, Ian Austin, Arya Degenhardt, David Carle, Mike Klapp, and Bartshe’ Miller.
  • 10 individual parties, 54.5 party-hours. Approximately 45 total miles of lake shore covered by foot, with an additional 3 miles covered by vehicle.
